Getting a pay raise is doable; if you know how to ask

Introduction

Scarece few of us feel that we are paid what we are worth, but if you want a pay increase you will have to convince the powers that be that you are more valuable to the company and DESERVE higher pay; this can be trickier than you might think.

    Research What You Should Be Making

    There are plenty of resources on the web for calculating what your salary should be.  Remember that salaries in one geographic area aren't applicable to all areas, for example the wage of someone in a position similar to yours in New York or San Francisco will pay a lot more than in Detroit or Indianapolis.
    thumb_up-> Update your resume and include skills, accomplishments, and training and compare that to your resume when you first joined the company.

    -> Consider your entire compensation package. Paid time off, medical insurance (and the amount of coverage, deductibles, co-pays, etc.) and other benefits count toward how much you are actually making.
    thumb_down-> Compare your wage to the wages of your coworkers; their situations are different and you don't have all the facts.
    lightbulb_outline Consider a variety of things that make you more valuable. Things like specific work experiences, training, and knowledge that you have acquired since you were hire are all viable reasons for a pay increase.
