Form Controls and Other Interactive Tools in Excel

An overview of form controls, ActiveX controls and hyperlinks used in financial models.

Description
This is an overview of check boxes, option buttons, drop-down lists and similar fancy things commonly referred to as Form Controls. They make working with models more convenient and efficient, and the models themselves – look more professional. The publication demonstrates what types of controls there are available and shows the differences between Form Controls and ActiveX control. A step-by-step explanations are provided on how to create the controls, set them up, link to worksheet cells and apply formatting. The file gives several practical tips and formula examples. In particular, using form controls one can change some model assumptions or scenarios from any worksheet quickly. You might have experienced a situation when you had switched you model to e.g. the Upside scenario, started walking through the worksheets, and on some worksheet decided you wanted to look at it un e.g. the Base scenario. You wished there was a way to switch to it immediately, without having to go back to the input sheet, and the file explains how you can do that. A special example of drop-down lists is the use of data validation functionality. Detailed instructions are given on this as well. The file also talks about dynamic hyperlinks. It explains how to create them with the HYPERLINK function to jump between the sheets or sections.
