ONLINE MARKETING BUSINESS START-UP FINANCIAL PLANNING MODEL – FOR NON-ACCOUNTANTS

Description
NOT AN ACCOUNTANT – NOT A PROBLEM!

If you want to start selling products via online marketing channels & marketplaces such as Amazon, eBay, Etsy etc but are unsure of how to tackle financial planning decisions – then this Financial Model could be the answer.

Using this model you can plan to sell up to 60 products in up to 4 different sales channels.

The model is designed to ensure that you cover, both accurately and efficiently, all the financial planning decisions that you have to make even if you do not have any accounting knowledge.
Once completed, you can review the results produced by the model and decide on one of three options that you will then have:

 Launch your business on the current plan basis
 Make changes to your plans that will achieve your aims
 Scrap this plan and move onto another.

It should ensure that you avoid wasting precious time and hard-earned money pursuing a course that takes you nowhere.

The analysis covers the standard areas that all start-ups should focus on. The inputs to these will depend on your knowledge and judgment of how you are going to run your new venture.

 sales volumes & prices
 product costs and the resources that you think that your business will need.

The analysis has a 5-year planning horizon and will generate outputs on a monthly basis - but the good news is that you do not have to spend hours typing in data for each item across 60 columns of a spreadsheet.

The reason for this is that the analysis is structured around the standard 6 stages each start-up passes through which are:

 Pre-launch research – any costs incurred in finding out more about the products, suppliers, market channel(s), competition.
 Business set-up – one-off costs e.g. legal – that you may have to incur.
 Test marketing – first products into first channel(s) - usually at a loss as not bought in bulk.
 Full business launch – first products bought in bulk into first channel(s)
 Expansion – adding new products and more online channels
 Maturity – gradual expansion over the business’s later years.

These are not mandatory, you can omit any stage if you wish; but all your inputs are geared around these 6 stages, not the 60 months you would normally have to think about.
For example: with sales volumes, for each of your products you only have to decide on the sales per month that they will be achieving at the end of each phase.

NOTE: There is a User Guide sheet and as well you will find on many input sheets a short description and note on what you have to do (this will appear by putting the cursor on each data type heading).

The model will, once completed, produce the following reports:

- Accounts - Balance Sheet, Income Statement, Cash Flow Forecast
- Dashboard - major Finance KPIs
- Dashboard - Channel KPIs
- Product KPIs
- Expense KPIs
- Payroll, assets, finance KPIs
- Detailed Sales by Product by Channel report
- Detailed Expense types by Cost Centre report
- A Plan Evaluation report

This Financial Planning model is designed to ensure that for the minimum of processing effort you will get the maximum useful outputs as you design your future business endeavour.
