Fans, Blowers, and Compressors Excel Workbook

Excel workbook intended to align with Chaper 8: Fans, Blowers, and Compressors of textbook Rules of Thumb for Engineers

Description
Fans, blowers, and compressors are generally used to move and pressurize gases, normally via pipes or ducts. Similarly to pumps, the gas movers are placed in the category of kinematic/positive displacement. However, calculations and selection factors are changed because gas compression goes with density and increases in temperature.

In this workbook, calculations are provided to estimate the power needed for centrifugal and reciprocating compressors. To calculate the compressibility factor for a gas, there is a VBA function. The, using a pressure-enthalpy diagram with user inputs for pressure, no. of stages, flow, intercooling temp, and isentropic therapy, the power is calculated.

This workbook contains 4 sheets including:
1/ Power- Reciprocating
2/ Power- Centrifugal
3/ CAGI Data
4/ P-E Diagram Air

This template accompanies Chapter 8 of Rules of Thumb for Engineers, 6th Edition by Stephen M Hall, PE. The templates are intended to solve problems outlined in the book, explain techniques for converting U.S. & SI units of measure, demonstrate data look up methods, and provide you with ready-to-use data sheets. The function subroutines can also be copied to other spreadsheets.
