  • Step n°2 |

    Choose your business model(s)

Most early-stage startups have one or more of these three possible business models operating at one time:

      1. Selling services / transactions / goods you don't manufacture. This can include drop-shipping or being a marketplace (like eBay or Uber).
      2. Manufacturing and/or holding inventory
      3. Subscriptions, which could include SaaS (software-as-a-service)
It's simplest to pick a single business model, at least when you're starting out. Many business do combine business models, and this spreadsheet template supports this.
For example, many IoT companies combine manufacturing with subscriptions (like Nest, Ring, or Fitbit)
You can also combine transactions with subscriptions (like Uber, which lets you both purchase one-off rides as well as subscribe to a monthly plan).
Amazon Prime is an annual subscription that drives eCommerce transactions.
Please choose and customize your business model(s) in this section
thumb_up It's easiest to pick one if you're just getting started.
thumb_down Don't spend too much time worrying about this now. You can always come back and adjust your business model later.
