National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC), is Public Sector Undertaking in India. The company is engaged in generation of electricity and other allied activities. NTPC is incorporated under the Companies Act 1956 and is promoted by the Government of India. It has a current installed capacity of 55,786 MegaWatts which is 15% of the total market share in India. It also has 133 million metric tons of mining capacity and 7.3 million metric tons of coal extraction in FY2019.

The company operates in an asset-heavy sector, which means a lot of capital is required to construct power plants and distribution lines. So, the entry of new players is difficult. It currently has 15% of the total installed capacity and contributes 22% to total electricity produced in India.
