What are the different software tools a product manager can decide to arm his/her team with?

With a proliferation in software tools, a product manager no longer needs to only decide a single product management or project management software. There are different types of tools available that can increase the chances of success of your product. The list below tries to cover most software categories that are important from the perspective of a product manager. As a product manager, it is good to know about these software categories. As a product manager, you need to make two important decisions related to these product categories – first, which are the categories for which our team needs some software and two, for the chosen categories which software should we use.

While these two decisions are important decisions to make for a product manager, it is important not to spend too much time on trying to make optimal decisions here. Often, the difference between two tools is not significant enough to warrant spending time on it.

To speed up this process for product managers and decision makers, this list provides a ready reckoner of software categories and software within each category. While this is in no way an exhaustive list, it covers the most common categories of software used by product managers. It also covers 2 to 3 ‘popular’ and ‘good’ tools in each category.
