McKinsey's Resilient Growth Dimensions Framework Template

In July 2022, McKinsey & Company's Stephan Görner, Arvind Govindarajan, Alex Panas, Ezra Greenberg, Ani Kelkar, John Kelleher, Ida Kristensen , Linda Liu, Asutosh Padhi, , Zachary Silverman, Tim Nysetvold , Anais Ross and Mark Staples published an article called "Something’s coming: How US companies can build resilience, survive a downturn, and thrive in the next cycle" (available here: https://www.mckinsey.com/capabilities/risk-and-resilience/our-insights/somethings-coming-how-us-companies-can-build-resilience-survive-a-downturn-and-thrive-in-the-next-cycle ).

The article was written in a context of a possible upcoming ressession for the end of 2022 and the beginning of 2023 in the USA and beyond.

In Exhibit 4, they outline a framework called "Reslient Growth Dimensions: Six dimensions of resilience can support defensive and offensive moves".

The framework's roots lie in the analysis and a deep research by McKinsey Teams of how a number of organisations navigated through the COVID-19 pandemic. How come some organisations better took the hit than others? How did they adjust to the changing context? How had they anticipated, at the organisational level, the acquisition of the competences to increase their resilience level?

The framweork has a total of 17 sub-dimensions, in 6 main dimensions:

- Cash conversion
- Hedging

🛠️ Operational (3):
- Workforce management
- Supply chain
- Maintenance

💻 Digital & Technology (3):
- Cyber and information technology
- Data protection, quality and availability
- Automation, analytics and digital experiences

🌱 Brand, reputation and ESG (2):
- Stakeholder management and communications
- Societal commitments

💡 Business model and innovation capabilities (2):
- Product and customer needs
- Ecosystems and alliances

👔 Organizational (3):
- Leadership resilience preparation
- Decision-making agility
- Talent

Given the pertinence of this resilience framework in the context of a possible economic crisis in 2023 (the result of many underlying macro challenges in the US and globally), I thought it wise to create an editable template any business leader can use to quickly assess his/her organisation on these 6 dimensions, via a scoring on the 17 sub-dimensions. The framework will also most likely be useful later in the 21st century, in other contextes where being a "resilient organisation" by design, is a competitive advantage.

The gist of the framework I created is to input a score from 1 to 5 on each of the 17 sub-dimensions of the 6 dimensions of Resilence Growth. This will automatically color the framework accordingly to visually represent the strong and weak-points of a given company using the tool.

Interpretation of scores:
1 ->Best Practice
3 ->Baseline
5 ->Lagging
