This is a brief introduction to using JIRA for project management in the IT and software development environments.

Description
This is a brief introduction to using JIRA for project management in the IT and software development environments.

While this guide does not intend to give an extensive overview of the tool, it provides a summary of the main concepts and terms used in JIRA and also contains links and references to external sites allowing the user to expand their knowledge of the tool.

Some useful keyboard shortcuts allowing opening and closing issues have been also provided.

Note that apart from documenting new sprints and issues, JIRA can be successfully used to visualise the progress of ticket closure and our projects. There are built in functionalities which allow users to create dashboards which feed data in directly from JIRA. This means there is no need to invest additional time in generating dashboards using external tools to provide high level overview of project to management.
To learn more about the above, refer to the 'Reporting' section of the Cheat Sheet.

Terms defined in the Cheat Sheet: Agile methodology, Scrum approach to project management, Kanban approach, Sprints, Issues, Tickets, Jira Query Language (JQL) for issue search, Backlog and version search, Burndown reporting tool and charts and dashboard generation functionalities in JIRA tool.
