Projects rarely fail because the analysis was too weak. They fail because the problem was never stated in numbers, the goal was a wish rather than a target, the sponsor did not actually control the process, or nobody checked whether the data could be obtained. By the time that becomes obvious the team has spent two months and the credibility is gone.


This free kit is the front end of a DMAIC project, in one Excel workbook.
Benefit Calculator. Turns a defect rate into an annual cost of poor quality and a saving your finance department will recognise, with a payback period on the project cost. Fill this in before you write anything else: if the saving does not justify a project team, choose a different problem. That decision alone is worth more than the rest of the file.


Project Charter. A complete charter form with the guidance for each field written beside it: what a business case has to say, what a problem statement must contain, and what it must never contain. The worked example runs the same numbers as the calculator, so you can see how the pieces connect.


90-Day Plan. Thirty six tasks across Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve and Control, with owners, due days and status, and a progress summary that updates itself. The sequence carries as much of the value as the tasks: measurement system before data collection, stability before capability, FMEA before rollout.
Charter Quality Check. Ten questions that decide whether the charter is ready, scored automatically with a go or no-go verdict. Below seven out of ten, do not hold the kick-off yet. The half hour it takes to fix the gaps is the cheapest half hour in the whole project.
